L'Archetipo Primitivo

L'Archetipo Primitivo is a remarkable expression of the Primitivo grape, hailing from the sun-drenched region of Puglia, Italy. Crafted by Valentino Dibenedetto and his four children, this wine stands out for its serious, structured, and dry profile. Bursting with dark fruit flavors of plum and fig with a wisp of red raspberry upon opening, unbrewed dark roasted coffee, and freshly ground cocoa. The fruit notes carry through, and develop further on the palate. Unlike the over-extracted and oaked styles often associated with Primitivo, L'Archetipo Primitivo is incredibly balanced and full-bodied, showcasing the true potential of this Southern Italian varietal.

The Dibenedetto family is deeply committed to synergistic agriculture and no-till regenerative viticulture, ensuring that their vineyards thrive alongside ancient grains and maintain proper soil health. This dedication results in grapes and wines of exceptional balance and energy. The vineyards, cultivated according to organic farming principles, produce wines that are not only delicious but also environmentally sustainable.

L'Archetipo considers their wine the highest expression of what they can grasp from their vineyards because of their strong commitment to starting from the soil. Born from the red soil adjacent to the Murgia a plateau in Italy, they work to keep the taste, smell, and color of their wines as unchanged as possible from the product of their grapes. They exclusively use the natural yeasts belonging to their lands, which are developed in their climate, and settle into their ecosystem where there is synergy between microflora and microfauna keeping the flavor of their unique place intact within their wines. They believe the industrial yeasts currently being used in manufactured winemaking are selected for the globalization of tastes, flattening the wide variety of flavors and fragrances organically found in nature. In addition to the soil and indigenous yeasts, the authentic expression of their lands is also retained by not filtering their wines, they believe the filtering process takes away the authenticity, flavor, and value of the living aspect of wine during its aging process. L’Archetipo advises to decant their wines to appreciate the true taste and get a clean product from the first sip of this unique wine which expresses deeply and completely their concept of terroir.

L’Archetipo believes every place has a fingerprint, unique and unrepeatable, with a specific interaction of an abundance of factors such as the perennial coexistence of its multitude of species living in perfect synergy, from the tiny organisms (microorganisms, protozoa, algae, lichens, mushrooms, yeasts, bacteria, etc.) to larger species (worms, spiders, springtails, etc.). By understanding and respecting this, they think of their wines as works of art. Their wines like Primitivo, Aglianico, Greco, Fiano, Susumaniello, Marchione, Maresco found the maximum vitality as their grapes are perfectly adapted to the soil and climate conditions, they have been cultivated for thousands of years and for this reason are defined as indigenous. They cultivate these plants according to their archetype, or their most natural form. It’s clear to them that they can’t do agriculture without taking into account all living beings that are part of the ecosystem and respecting them. L'Archetipo Primitivo is a testament to the harmonious relationship between nature and winemaking, offering a truly unique and authentic wine experience.
