Monte Bernardi 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva

This week’s wine is a lovely Chianti Classico Riserva. To us, it’s a perfect example of what a Chianti should be. Monte Bernardi’s 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautiful ruby color with medium intensity, acid, and body—high tannins and a long finish balance out the cherry notes. Strawberry Twizzlers on the nose wrap up this all-around, fun-to-drink wine.

The grapes are grown in Panzano, the southernmost region in the Chianti Grand Cru region. There is a unique micro-climate in the area due to the Pesa River and an abundance of desirable soil including classic shale, calcareous sandstone, and limestone. Monte Bernardi has the highest percentage of old vines in Chianti, they have one hectare dating back to 1933 and their grapes are 100% estate-grown. The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo Nero, and 90% of the juice is from vines planted in 1968.

We suggest pairing this one with the classic spaghetti and meatballs, but it's also incredibly quaffable on its own. Stop in and grab a bottle to try it for yourself today, you can pick up a bottle for just $40.
