Jolie Laide Rosé

We thought it appropriate to open up a rosé on Valentine’s Day for this week’s Weekend Wine Down. Serenity chose Jolie Laide Rosé. This light rosé is made up of 70% Gamay and 30% Cabernet Franc, the grapes are blended, not co-fermented, thus allowing each varietal to reveal its full potential before combining to create a well-blended rosé. The grapes used in this vintage are from El Dorado County and the El Dorado AVA. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in north-central California the high elevation and granite soil help create wines with great depth and density.

Jolie Laide translates to “Pretty-Ugly”, a French term to describe unconventional beauty. Jolie Laide is a small, two-person operation; winemaker Scott Schultz and his partner Jenny Schultz make only 500 cases of wine per year. But their dedication to using simple, all natural winemaking methods results in some of the most unique wines in California. The grapes used in this rosé are whole cluster fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeast, producing an incredibly light rosé with notes of unripe strawberries, light melon and florals. With its light flavors and low acidity, this wine is sure to please. Along with its agreeable taste, the beautiful art on the bottle make this the perfect bottle to gift.

You can learn more about the label art and artists here. They have new art on every new vintage - a physical representation reflecting their belief that no two vintages of their wine are quite alike, but they are all beautiful creations.
