Gourmet Updates

Check out our specials this week! Chef Serenity is making Lentil, & Celery Soup and Cranberry Chicken Salad. The cheese case is fully stocked, Comté and the Champignon Triple Cream are back and we just got in the Bleu d’Auvergne. All three are perfect for snacking and great additions to many fall favorites.

We hate to rush the holidays, but they will be here before we know it. We will have pre-orders open for torta and charcuterie boards soon. It’s best to start thinking about what you’ll need for any holiday parties now. Torta goes fast around here, blink and you’ll miss it and we have a limit on the number of charcuterie boards we can do per day. Keep an eye here in the newsletters and on our socials for pre-order forms and you can always call or email if you have any questions or want to place an order.

In addition to the ever-popular torta and charcuterie boards, we also make custom gift baskets. We’re working with Scatter Joy on customized items that are great for gifting. And our selection of wine bags and coolers would be great embroidered - check in next door at Just Add Embroidery to have custom embroidery done. Who wouldn’t love wine and a book? Stop in over at The Bookshelf to find the perfect book to pair with your gift basket. Have something particular in mind? Ask us! It might be something we can source for you. If you have something already purchased, just drop it off and we can add it to a gift basket for you.

We create hand-crafted, custom charcuterie and cheese boards for all occasions and any number of people. You can order by emailing Serenity using the link below, calling us at 513-561-6956, or stopping in the shop.

Wines

The Spottswoode Estate was established in the Napa Valley in 1882 by George Schonewald, when he bought 31 acres and intended it to be a country retreat during the summer months. He named the estate Lyndenhurst. In 1884, Schonewald sold several acres to Frank Kraft, who began cultivating the vineyard and built the winery, and formed Kraft Wines. The original winery is still in use today and is used as a storage cellar. In 1906, Joseph Bliss purchased the estate and changed the name to Stonehurst. Two years later he sold it to Dr. George Allen who later sold it to the Spotts family, who gave the estate its current name.

In 1972, Mary Weber Novak purchased Spottswoode with her husband, Dr. Jack Novak. In 1985, it became the first vineyard in the Napa Valley to be farmed organically, shortly after Tony Soter became wine consultant, and it was certified organic in 1992. In 1986, the estate and the Napa Valley was badly affected by flooding. In 2010, the estate was producing 7000 cases a year, of which about 75% were Cabernets. Mary Weber Novak died in September 2016 and the owner as of 2021 is her daughter, Beth Novak Milliken. Beth has been the CEO of the company since 2007 and her sister Linda is the Marketing Ambassador.

Situated on the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley, the Spottswoode Estate terroir is ideal for winegrowing. The alluvial clay loam from the Sulphur Creek fan provides superb drainage while cool maritime breezes passing between Spring Mountain and the Mayacamas range allow the fruit to ripen evenly.

Originally established in 1882, the Spottswoode Estate has a distinguished history in Napa Valley. Stewarded by second-generation sisters, their 42 acres are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with small blocks of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc.

At Spottswoode, grape growing and winemaking are intimately linked. In addition to the health and resilience that organics and biodynamics have brought to the vineyard, the individual attention given to each block contributes to the consistent quality and unique characteristics of Spottswoode wines.

Aron Weinkauf, the winemaker says:

Stunning! Beautiful aromatics of candied violet, blackberry, blueberry yogurt, and cassis. Powerfully expressive with sturdy, firm tannins, generous acidity, and a long lively finish marked by cedar and toffee notes. An elegant vintage, this spectacular wine captures the essence of the Spottswoode Estate Vineyard. It is fresh and youthful now with a long life ahead.
