Langhe Nascetta from Daniele Conterno

We're back for the Weekend Wine Down! This week Rob introduced us to Daniele Conterno's 2022 Langhe Nascetta. Nascetta (pronounced nahs-SHET-tah) is a grape grown on the Langhe Hills in Piedmont - you may be familiar with some of its neighbors Gavi and Arneis - once almost extinct, Nascetta was "rediscovered" in 1991 by Valter Fissore. In 1994 800 bottles were produced in conjunction with Elvio Cogno, the unclassified grape earned them a lawsuit and in 2002, Nascetta became a DOC “Langhe” wine. In 2010, it obtained the most prestigious recognition of its own appellation, “Langhe Nas-cetta of the Township of Novello,” whose production is only authorized within the confines of the township of Novello and using 100% Nascetta.

This wine has a light color, medium body, and high acidity. Its beautiful minerality comes from the clay soil in the region. You'll find this wine to have round flavors with light pear notes and stone fruit. We find it is best served chilled and can be a crowd-pleasing, unique, and interesting alternative to Pinot Grigio. You can stop in and try it for yourself for $37 and let us know what you think!
